The typewriter was created in 1714, but was not patented. Many attempts at a typewriter succeeded, but all were less practical than writing for efficiency. In 1868, the first practical typewriter was created by Christopher Latham Sholes. There were many different types of typewriters invented such as manual, electronic, and many others. Some of the typewriters that were made before the one made by Christopher, but they where either too bulky or just too slow and writing by hand would be much easier. When people used early models of typewriters, they would often have to retype the papers because of scratch outs in the paper due to spelling errors. Finally, in the 1900's, people started coming out with white paint that could help erase the errors that typists made. The first good typewriter was sold for a whole $12,000 for just the typewriter. The typewriter was used very broadly. In world War 2, it was used as a recording device that later could be read back to who needed to here it. It was also used to help with woman's schooling which later helped them with getting rights.
